Selected microhabitat and surface temperatures of two sympatric lizard species

چکیده

Many small lizards live in structurally and thermally heterogeneous environments where they can select preferred microhabitats surface temperatures to optimize their activity. We examined microhabitat selection analyzed selected by two ecologically similar lacertid species, Iberolacerta horvathi Podarcis muralis, at three sites different ecological contexts: allotopic syntopic conditions. spatial thermal using high-precision geolocation techniques locate the record with temperature data loggers. Microhabitat availability differed among sites: I. site had more rock surfaces was coldest; P. muralis ground warmer; greatest heterogeneity. Our results highlight differences between most notably selection, but also characteristics. preferentially almost exclusively rocks. chose soil, a general use of microhabitats. colder than those available, while higher available. Both species showed no sites, which could not be explained sites. provided new insights into difference lizard that may adapted environments.

Stable isotope analysis of diet confirms niche separation of two sympatric species of Namib Desert lizard.

We used stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen to study the trophic niche of two species of insectivorous lizards, the Husab sand lizard Pedioplanis husabensis and Bradfield's Namib day gecko living sympatrically in the Namib Desert. We measured the δ(13) C and δ(15) N ratios in lizard blood tissues with different turnover times (whole blood, red blood cells and plasma) to investigate lizard di...

Lung infection rates in two sympatric Tropiduridae lizard species by pentastomids and nematodes in northeastern Brazil.

We present data on pulmonary infection rates by parasites in the lizards Tropidurus hispidus Spix, 1825 and T. semitaeniatus (Spix, 1825) living sympatrically in the Chapada do Araripe mountain Range, northeastern Brazil. We found no parasite pulmonary infection in T. semitaeniatus. However, two pulmonary parasite species were found in the T. hispidus hosts, the pentastomid Raillietiella mottae...

Food procurement and tooth use in two sympatric lemur species.

This study of two lemur species (Lemur catta and Propithecus v. verreauxi) in Madagascar combines observations of food procurement and initial food placement in the mouth with comparisons to food toughness and external properties. Food toughness was hypothesized to play a decisive role in determining food placement during ingestion. It was found that tougher foods are generally ingested on the ...
